Man-of-the-match was all-rounder Andy Brown who took three wickets for 31 runs in a seven-over spell before guiding the visitors to victory, in a 45-overs-a-side game, with a patient and unbeaten 20 after JICC had slipped to 134 for 7 chasing 188 for victory.
JICC president Keith Dennis said: ‘It was a good win and very pleasing because many spectators commented on how smart we looked together with being competent on the pitch.
‘More than half of our team are products of our development programme and that bodes well for the future.
‘Many of the Martlets play first division standard in and around the London area and we had to work hard for the win.
‘Andy Brown bowled superbly and he showed grit and determination in a difficult run chase to help us home.
Nigel Crocker also batted well at the conclusion.
‘The Gough twins also impressed with the bat.
Jonny played some good shots while Peter performed well too and if he did not play as many Champagne shots he would get a lot more runs.’ Bobby Minty kept wicket tidily while JICC’s ground fielding was good with no catches dropped throughout the match.
Jonny Gough’s 47 came off 67 balls in an 86-minute stay at the crease while Brown hung around for 51 minutes, scoring 20 off 25 deliveries.
Sussex Martlets are celebrating their Centenary this year and it is possible JICC may be invited back next year to compete in a six-a-side tournament.
