The boy was riding his motorbike when a blue hatchback – possibly a Peugeot – collided with him on St Clement’s inner road near Fauvic crosssroads at 7.20 pm yesterday.

Police say that the car, travelling towards St Clement, stopped for a split second before speeding off, leaving the boy badly injured in the road.

He was immobilised and needed a spinal collar before he was stretchered into an ambulance and taken to hospital.

He has a fractured ankle as well as a badly cut foot and damaged hips and thighs.

The road was closed for several hours.

Police say that the front of the blue car would have been badly damaged and are urging the public to be on the lookout for it.

Anyone with any information or who may have seen the incident should call the police on 612612 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
