The school has introduced a new scheme to acknowledge the dedication of students with the highest levels of attendance.

Under the scheme those who clock up the most school days are given prizes.

Attendance officer Jo Harris said the idea was to help highlight the importance of school attendance to students.

She said: ‘It may seem a bit like the carrot and stick scenario but it has been extremely effective and this school year we have had over 400 students with over 95 per cent attendance, despite there being lots of bugs and viruses affecting the whole of the Island.

‘Good attendance says so much about a person and the students have shown that they are committed, reliable, dependable, motivated, determined and consistent.

‘Throughout the year students have been encouraged to take more responsibility for their attendance and punctuality.’ It has been stressed that developing these skills is essential for the workplace.

Mrs Harris added: ‘We believe in positive reinforcement and by the students showing their commitment to the school and to themselves they were given the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes supplied by a range of influential local employees.
