The 43-year-old detective constable was arrested along with two other people late last week.
It is believed that that the officer is accused of passing on confidential information to unauthorised people.
The three were taken in following an investigation by the force’s professional standards department into alleged misuse of computer systems.
The deputy police chief, Lennie Harper, confirmed today that the inquiry had been running for several months and that the arrests had nothing to do with last Thursday’s terrorist attacks on London.
