The championships, at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham tomorrow and Saturday, will feature Jersey throwing ace Jamie Stevenson (15) attempting to win another English Schools national discus title, although he has now moved up an age group.
He had a sensational year in 2004, also winning the AAAs and Scottish titles, and will want to add to this year’s successes which include a discus silver in the Jeux des Isles in Crete.
Another with happy memories of both Birmingham and Crete is javelin thrower Becky Slater, who won bronze at both.
High jumper Sophie Twinam (15) was a finalist at the English Schools last year, as was 200m sprinter Gemma Dawkins (14) who will return home after the English Schools, being too young for the Shetland Games.
