Like any other school in the Island with a large sports hall, St Clement’s Le Rocquier has filled its sports hall with hundreds of desks and chairs ready for the exams.

And that means that the NatWest Island Games gymnastics team were homeless for their training – that is, until Trinity farmer Alan Cabot stepped in.

Alan, whose two children are involved in gymnastics, cleared out a disused barn and has allowed the team to use his facilities.

‘It has been absolutely fabulous,’ said team manager Andy Rogers.

‘Looking at it from the outside, you wouldn’t believe how well it has scrubbed up inside.

‘The best thing about it is that we don’t have to set up and put away all of the equipment.

Although Le Rocquier have been very good with us, it was like the swimmers having to fill up the pool before training and then draining it again at the end.

It means that we have had more time to practise during the sessions, and it’s really improved our standards.

‘We have only been in there for about eight weeks, but already a judge from another club said there has been a marked improvement.

If it wasn’t for Alan, we wouldn’t be going to the Island Games this year.’
