An arbitration panel has awarded them 6.5 per cent over two years, which is worth £1.88m and is slightly up on the States offer of six per cent but well below their nine per cent claim.

The below-inflation pay awards announced this morning have been welcomed by Policy and Resources and Finance and Economics, and means that all States pay negotiations between June 2004 and May 2006 have been decided.

Manual workers were awarded three per cent for 2004-5, under their claim of four per cent but above the offer of 2.5 per cent that was accepted by other pay groups.

They were also awarded 3.5 per cent for 2005-6, in line with the original States offer and below the claim of five per cent.

The rises are set against retail price index (RPI) figures of 3.7 per cent for March 2005 and 4.5 per cent for March 2005.
