The former Island netball star has enjoyed a long and fruitful sporting career – but she has never before graced the field of play at Island Games level.

Eileen has been a general team manager for the past two Games, in the Isle of Man in 2001 and Guernsey 2003.

But she has been involved with Jersey’s Island Games squads since 1993 when she coached the netball team to gold in the Isle of White.

When netball was omitted from the Gibraltar Games in 1995 Mrs Vowden joined Jersey’s executive committee and travelled to support the Island squad.

Two years later at the Jersey Games, Mrs Vowden, who is also a keen golfer and Royal Jersey member, became a co-ordinator for the men’s and women’s golf teams.

And she remained on the executive committee for the Gotland Games in 1999, meaning she has been involved in every Games for the past 12 years.
