The committee last week discussed the idea of a vintage grand prix which is being put forward by the Jersey Old Car Club, who stage the annual Jersey Festival of Motoring.

The item was placed on the agenda by St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, who is enthusiastic about its possible benefits for the Island.

Mr Crowcroft said the main concern was the safety element, which had to be fully investigated and addressed before any major event could go ahead.

The first step will be the visit to the Island by John Felix from the Motor Sports Association who is experienced in the staging of major motor events in the UK.

Mr Felix gave advice to the JOCC when they decided to set up sprints in the Island five years ago and continues to support their festival.
