Referring to comprehensive figures published last week by the States Statistics Unit, Mike Liston said that efficiency efforts could not be relaxed.
The Energy Trends report revealed that the Island produced 30 per cent less greenhouse gases last year than in 1991, even though carbon emissions rose by 3.7 per cent in the 12 months to April 2005.
Electricity use has also increased, by 2.5 per cent per household, in the past year.
Mr Liston said: ‘We welcome the seriousness with which the States is now treating energy.
This is the most comprehensive analysis of energy use ever done in Jersey.
Climate change and increasing world energy prices are both reasons to use energy wisely.’
