At a meeting on the Draft Waste Strategy at Havre des Pas Bathing Pool, Stuart Shepherd said that the smell from the site was awful and that if Environment and Public Services expanded the operation, he would form an action group to get the rate cut.
He said his family’s health had suffered because of the composting site – which was moved to La Collette when Crabbé closed.
With Environment planning to build a new £3.9 million plant and a £1.4 million recycling centre to the east of the reclamation site, the residents demanded that the impact on their lives be made minimal.
Although the more than 30-strong audience included a number of Environment officers and States Members, the residents gave Environment president Senator Philip Ozouf and his vice-president and area Deputy, Jerry Dorey, a hard time.
