Rawiller, a legend in southern hemisphere racing circles, has ridden over 1,200 winners down-under, and although he may not be too well known this side of the equator – trainer Joan Le Brocq believes his distinctive style will thrill the punters at Les Landes.
‘It’s great for Jersey racing to have such a prestigious jockey racing in the Island,’ she said.
‘It’s a terrific boost.
We’ve had people like Lester Piggott, Tony McCoy and Richard Dunwoody over in recent years, but Nash is up there with the best of them and he’s a top senior jockey.
‘I think people will be thrilled by his distinctive style – the Australians have a lower round whip action – and Jersey’s going to be in for a real treat.’ Rawiller is on a six week tour of Britain with world famous horse Elvstroem, the old campaigner that has raced all over the world.
He recently finished fourth at Newbury and second at Longchamps, Paris and he will race in four of the five races at Les Landes on Monday.
He will ride Time to Run, trained by Alyson Malzard, Arbos Little Girl, trained by Vicky Lucas and two of Joan Le Brocq’s horses that are yet to be named.
Island trainer Alyson Malzard said: ‘To get a jockey of his calibre to ride in Jersey is great.
It’s great for the horses, it’s great for the trainers and it’s great for the punters.
He’ll be riding my horse Time to Win over the one and a quarter mile Feature Race and I think he has very good chance.
‘We have had famous jockeys over before but Nash has ridden over 1,200 winners in Australia so I’m sure he knows what he’s doing – it’s a great coup for Jersey racing.’
