Policy and Resources are proposing changes to the Commission Amicale.

The commission was set up in 1995 and is composed of States Members and French politicians from Normandy and the Manche region.

The Bailiff’s role as chairman of the Jersey delegation was considered by a working party appointed in 2003 to review how best to maintain and develop relations between Jersey and France.

It recommended that the Bailiff should continue to lead the delegation at formal meetings, but because he is not an elected representative – unlike all delegates – he should be excluded from discussions of a political nature.

Policy and Resources are seeking States approval to create a new position of president of the Jersey Delegation of the Commission Amicale and that the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, should be appointed.

They are also proposing that Senator Jean Le Maistre, the senior Member of the States, be appointed chairman.
