Herbert won her first two senior caps in November 2003, when she played in two test matches against the visiting Japan team, and her selection now follows an excellent début season with champions Fyffes Leicester.

Herbert, a former JCG pupil and Quackers hockey team member, finished the season as the club’s top-scorer and also helped Fyffes lift the England Hockey Cup.

Challenge She went on to perform well in the U21 England series against Germany at Easter, which England won 3-2.

Four of the participating sides which England will compete against in Seoul are Korea, India, China and Ireland, with one more yet to be confirmed.

China and Korea are both placed above England in the world rankings and India, another well-recognised hockey nation, won the 2004 Asian Cup, so the tournament will be a challenge for the England players.

Herbert will still be 18 at the time of the trip and the youngest squad member, although three more U21s have been named in the senior squad, along with three of her senior Leicester team-mates.
