The Jersey Hospitality Association has been asked to submit ideas and is urging members to ‘make a difference and improve some of the Island’s bureaucratic processes’.
The latest JHA newsletter cites examples involving planning and Regulation of Undertakings.
For example, they claim that the planning process is ‘extremely lengthy’ and ‘pernickety’, with permission refused for no obvious or practical reason and insistence on items such as granite facing, even when it can’t be seen.
Departments ‘sometimes contradict each other’ – for example Planning insisting on one style and Heritage demanding another.
There also seems to be duplication of Regulation of Undertakings requirements if a firm wants to employ a non-EU national.
Members should send their ‘red tape’ suggestions to hospitality@jerseyhols.
