Last May, architects Axis Mason Ltd, agents for Bridgemere Developments Ltd, submitted proposals for 57 homes.

Although just three flats have been dropped, Axis’s managing director, Ian McDonald, said that after months of discussions with the Planning department, the plans had undergone substantial changes.

Five years ago 100 units of accommodation were suggested when plans to redevelop the St Brelade site were first revealed.

The current plan is to demolish all existing buildings and build a residential development consisting of 45 flats and nine detached houses, considerably set back on the escarpment above Portelet Bay and fitting in with the landscape.
