The game will go ahead at Springfield on 29 July as part of the JFA’s centenary celebrations.
It follows talks between the JFA’s football development officer Brian Oliver and national disabled football development manager Jeff Davis after the two met at the Lilleshall coaching centre.
JFA president Charlie Tostevin confirmed the fixture this morning.
Said Tostevin: ‘We’re absolutely delighted that such a prestigious side are coming and I’d like to thank Brian and Jeff Davis for making it possible.’ The England team won the World Cup in Japan in 2002 and the Springfield game will form part of the build-up to the defence of their title in Germany next year.
Oliver knows it won’t be an easy game for Jersey.
‘It will be competitive,’ he said.
They’ve got a very good side – they were also semi-finalists in the European LD championship in Portugal last year.’ Said Island manager Dave Matthews: ‘It’ll be great for us and it’s a great privilege for them to want to come here – with their record they must be good.
‘The more games we get in, the better.
This, together with Northern Ireland wanting to bring their full squad over, proves that we’re well and truly on the footballing map.
‘Our lads will be back in training for next season so it will give them something to aim for.’ But Island hopefuls Jason Benest and Douglas Mauger won’t be joining the England Under-17 Learning Difficulties squad.
The pair spent the weekend training with the squad at Lilleshall after travelling to England with development officer Oliver.
He said: ‘They did their best and had a really good experience, but the standard was very high.
‘Since I was last there in November they’ve tightened up the squad and the standard has gone up significantly.
‘There are some boys there who are with professional clubs.’ Jason (15), who plays for St John’s Under-16s, and Douglas (14), who is also a gymnast, both play football for Mont à l’Abbé School.
