And, despite having two ABA Nationals quarter-finalists in action on the same night – in Portland, Dorset – Leonis coach Dave Thompson has elected to remain in Jersey to keep an eye on his lads here.

‘It had to happen sometime, but I can’t be in two places at once, so I’m staying with the lads in Jersey and Eddie Stuart and Tony Burt, who are both former ABA boxers themselves and now coach at South Hill Gym, will look after Ben (Murray) and Dave (Lund) in Dorset.’ Thompson said.

Welterweights Paul Young and Danny Maka top the bill at the Royal Hotel, Young having recently returned from his foray into the ABA Western Counties contest at the end of January.

These two take on David (Dai) Smith and Jamie Moss, both of whom will test the Jersey pair.

At middleweight Craig Le Boutillier will need to box clever against Billy Alexander and lightweight Joe Rogerson has a return match with Welsh southpaw Alex Herbert, who had a cracking contest last time they met.

The much-improved Ollie Power and fast-punching Ruben Legge will be out to entertain the crowd, as ever, as will youngsters Tommy Noel (welterweight) and bantam Elliot Kennedy.

The other Leonis boys are Shaun Irving and Doug Littlechild, with newcomers Decio Ferreira, Andy Heaton and Boyd Munro.

Pisces boxers Jamie Manners and Jamie Le Page are also on the bill.

The fight night is at the Royal Hotel, David Place, doors open 7.30 pm, first bout at 8 pm.

Tickets available from Vowden Sports or on the door.
