In making a presentation yesterday to the Scrutiny Panel on Waste Management, representatives of Normandy-based SPEN and SIREC – who work with a number of other waste specialists – said that they could handle all the Island’s waste – from collection to shipment to France for disposal in landfill.
All they needed, they said, were the figures, and within three months they could produce a plan which, if acceptable to Jersey, could be operational within a year.
Panel chairman Deputy Phil Rondel said they had seen the company’s operations at first hand last year when they visited France.
He said he hoped Environment and Public Services, who are finalising the £83.4 million Waste Strategy, would give the syndicates’ offer serious consideration.
Environment president Senator Philip Ozouf has stated his opposition to exporting waste to France for disposal in infill sites.
