They will not be able to put forward their own proposals, however, but will have to accept or reject those put forward by the Chief Minister.

P & R have lodged an amendment to the draft States of Jersey Law changing the proposed system of en bloc nominations.

Under the proposed changes, the process will be led by the Chief Minister, who will have three opportunities to fill each one of the nine ministerial posts.

The posts will be Economic Development, Education, Sport, and Culture, Environment, Health and Social Services, Home Affairs, Housing, Public Services, Social Security and Treasury and Resources.

If, after three attempts, the Chief Minister cannot get agreement from a majority of States Members, he or she will lose their status and the whole process will begin again with the selection of a new Chief Minister designate.
