Following the Under-16 visit some months ago and the Under-18 matches at Springfield this week, there are now moves to bring over the senior squads.
Paul Sowney of Sporting Eventualities, the organisation responsible for arranging the current tour, will travel to Belfast in two weeks time to discuss future tours – and the possibility of the senior national side using Jersey as a training base prior to international competition.
‘Hopefully this week’s matches will be a stepping stone to bringing over the U21s and senior side,’ he said.
And the Province’s Under-18 manager Bob Ramsey described the idea as ‘being a natural progression.’ He said the tour had been ‘excellent preparation’ for the annual Under-18 Centenary Shield tournament against England, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales that is broadcast live on SkySports.
‘Normally we only play local teams back home so to come here is fantastic and I’d like to thank everyone at the JFA, Sporting Eventualities and Flybe for helping to make the trip possible.
‘Look at this turf,’ he said looking down at the Springfield pitch.
‘It’s great and the facilities here are first class.’
