The chairman of Jersey Opera House Ltd, Christopher Lakeman, has warned that, despite having approval for a limited number of shows until April, the theatre may be forced to shut its doors even sooner.
He is urging people to show their support for the Opera House by attending a public meeting on Saturday morning, when the board will explain how the theatre’s financial crisis has come about.
‘The board have reached the position that they want to fight for the staff and they want to fight for the venue,’ he said.
‘It’s now reaching the point where soon shows – including the amateur shows – are going to have to be cancelled.’ He added that the theatre had already lost one ‘no risk’ show it had negotiated – the West End version of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat – after requests made to Education in December were ignored.
