Speaking at a public meeting held in Grouville on the proposed French offshore wind farm, parishioner Joy Nursey said people could no longer go on ignoring the effects of global warming and alternative energy had to be the way forward.
And a show of hands at the end of the meeting indicated that the majority of those who attended were in favour of the wind farm proposal.
Referring to a recently published scientific report, Mrs Nursey said: ‘The point of no return will be reached in two years.’ Mrs Nursey agreed that other issues raised by the audience of more than 100 – such as the noise, visual impact and size of the proposed 23 80-metre high turbines – were interesting points but were nothing compared to the damage fossil fuels were doing to the environment.
