Her measure is a reaction to the determination of the Economic Development Committee to sell the now empty and uninhabited farm buildings that straddle Route de Noirmont to a private purchaser so that he can spend his own money on creating a home.
Former builder George Langlois, who is a member of the history section of the Société Jersiaise, has researched its sale to the States in 1950.
He said: ‘It cannot be sold off.
This building was sold to the public in perpetuity to preserve the area as a memorial to the men and women of Jersey who died in the Second World War.’ The proposed sale has been called ‘indefensible’ by Geoffrey Hill, spokes-man for the Friends of Noirmont Association.
