THE BATTLE at the top of Championship 1 took another twist this weekend as St Ouen’s Reserves strengthened their position with a dramatic victory, while Jersey Wanderers Reserves were held to a draw.
Reduced to ten men after just 25 minutes following the dismissal of Jonathan Le Blancq, St Ouen’s showed impressive resilience to claim a 4-3 win over St Peter Reserves in one of the games of the weekend.
Goals from Ben Caesar and Andre Marques, along with a brace from Simão Oliveira, ensured St Ouen’s claimed all three points in a high-scoring encounter. Sean Kelly, Ethan Rankin and Fergus Fox scored for St Peter.
The result sees them pull further clear at the top of the table, taking advantage of Wanderers’ slip.
Jersey Wanderers Reserves were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against St Brelade Reserves, a result that dents their title hopes.
Jack Hardisty and Jack Browning were on target for Wanderers, but they were unable to secure the win they needed to keep pace at the summit, with Callum McKenzie netting both for St Brelade.
In Premiership 1, the relegation battle remains finely poised after St Peter and Madeira played out a 1-1 draw.
Diogo Velosa gave Madeira the lead, but Leo Barker responded to earn a point for the hosts. However, the result does little to ease the pressure on either side as they continue their fight to avoid the drop.
Rozel Rovers continued their perfect run in Premiership 2, but they were made to work hard for their latest victory.
Trailing at the break to Brendan Le Roux’s opener for St Lawrence, Rozel responded strongly in the second half. Connor O’Keeffe levelled the scores before Reuben Davey struck the winner to seal a 2-1 comeback victory and maintain their unbeaten record.

In cup action, First Tower United and St Ouen’s C booked their places in the Jersey Dog Club Challenge Cup final.
First Tower secured a 2-0 win over Grouville C, with goals from Ben Hagin and Jordan Jones proving decisive.
St Ouen’s C joined them in the final after edging past St John Reserves 2-1, thanks to strikes from James McMillan and Daniel Durell, while Christian da Oliveira replied for their opponents.
Attention will now turn to the final, where both sides will be aiming to cap their campaigns with silverware.
There was also success at junior level, where St Paul’s Under-18s sealed the title in emphatic fashion.
An impressive 5-0 victory over Trinity confirmed their unbeaten season, with Louis Robinson, Aimar Vieira, Sonny Cassidy and JD Dickson all finding the net.
The achievement is made all the more notable given the number of players already involved in senior football, highlighting the strength of the club’s development pathway.
Manager Chris Herlihy has overseen an outstanding first season in charge, guiding a youthful side — including several under-16 players — to a deserved league triumph.
Meanwhile, attention turns to Springfield this evening, where Jersey Wanderers Reserves face St Clement’s Reserves in the P.W. Touzel Memorial Trophy final (7pm kick-off), offering Wanderers an immediate opportunity to respond to their weekend disappointment.
With league titles, promotion battles and cup finals all still to be decided, the local football season continues to deliver drama across every level of the game.
