A ST Helier North Deputy has confirmed he will bid to be returned to his seat in the June election.

Deputy Max Andrews was a political newcomer when he was elected in 2022. Since then, he has served on several Scrutiny panels, including the Economic and International Affairs and Corporate Services panels.

Confirmed his candidacy, Deputy Andrews said: “I intend to continue work to reduce government expenditure. We need to ensure we commence work to eradicate the public sector deficit. Whilst restoring a public sector surplus is essential, work must be undertaken to make transfers to the Stabilisation Fund and the Strategic Reserve.”

He pointed to several successful propositions he has brought during this term, including a move to reduce the size of the Cabinet Office, introducing a Skills Development Fund and a move requiring estate agents to be members of a redress scheme, which is set to be brought forward after the election.

He added: “I have also held talks with Propertymark in the UK about the regulation of estate agents. I intend to bring forward a bespoke law to regulate estate agents which will include a requirement for estate agents to undertake professional exams covering Jersey law.

“I will continue to represent the interests of first-time buyers. I intend to bring forward a long-term plan, so present and future governments, work towards increasing homeownership rates.”

There will be three Deputy seats on offer in the St Helier North district. One of the sitting district Deputies – Inna Gardiner – has confirmed her intention to stand for St Helier Constable.

Islanders will go to the polls on Sunday 7 June – the first time a Jersey election has been held on the weekend.
