Jersey’s travelling swimmers could not pick up enough points in the 16 relays and even though they out-scored Guernsey in the individual events they ended up 20 points adrift.

Considering the time of the season with many of the team in very heavy training there were some excellent personal bests.

In the 11-and-under age group, the Jersey girls were dominant as Kerrie Smith and Emma Glendenning shared the spoils winning all four races and with Hannah Ross and Charlotte Manning they added the relays.

The youngest boys, Daniel Galloway, Martin Perkins, Harrison McLinton and James Walwyn, took one of the relays while Galloway took first in the butterfly and Perkins and Walwyn each gained a second place.

The 12/13 age groups were always going to be tough.

The girls relay squads of Pippa Whitehead, Amira Ahmed, Jemma Carter, Abigail Lucas, Rebecca Le Maistre and Jacy Brown made up two record-breaking quartets as Guernsey’s girls also went inside the previous best.

Brown (back), Ahmed (fly) and Lucas (breast) were also individual winners.

The boys were unable to match the relay wins but raced well.

Michael Le Couilliard set new bests and placed second in the back and breast while James Payne was second in the butterfly.? The 14/15 year olds were out sprinted in the relays but Victoria Rebours (backstroke first and breast-stroke second), Sarah-Jane Smith (breast first and fly second) and Jay Bichard (freestyle second) had good races with Hayley Morris joining them for the relays.

Ian Black continued his improvement and with a breast-stroke victory and three second places he impressed.

With Robin Johnson, Justin Jégou and Modi Ahmed the boys got very close to their Sarnian counterparts.

The seniors showed signs of fatigue but Rosie Barrett (three seconds), Simon Le Couilliard (equal first backstroke and second for IM and fly), Damien Bouchère (first breast), Amy Pallot (second fly) placed well.

Abigail Faudemer, Katie Speller, Simon Abels, Stuart Black, Ashley Cope, Lauren Le Mière and Peter Baudains all played their part in a creditable set of swims.

Most of the swimmers will be racing again in Jersey this weekend in the AIB Tigers Annual Open Meet at Les Quennevais.
