Following a highly successful summer season, which included a recent trip to swim competitively in Australia, he completed Sunday’s event in 31 min 41 sec, just beating Alexis Militis.
Third in the men’s race was Stuart Black, who also competed in Australia recently..
In the women’s race Katie Speller posted a formidable time in the adverse conditions, which included a stiff head wind, finishing in 34 min 54 sec.
Her nearest rival, Martine Le Guilcher, was almost six minutes slower, finishing narrowly ahead of Sara-Jane Stirling.
The Jersey Swimming Club closed team event for women was won by Speller, Chloë Denoual and Rosie Le Breton.
Simon Dowling, Michael Ramnouth and Stephen Atherley won the men’s closed event, and Halksworth, Militis and his brother Simon, the former Olympian, won the men’s open team prize.
In the over-40 category Bruce Bridel, representing the Royal Lifesaving Society, was first, two minutes ahead of Bob Donaldson.
In the women’s race in this category Sally Minty-Gravett recorded winning a time of 45 min 6 sec, with Marian Harvey coming in second.
The over-50 events, meanwhile, were won by Dee Richards and John Ferris, who made the distance in an impressive 39 min 43 sec.
The races were sponsored by Empire Catering.
Canoe Club members accompanied the swimmers.
