A 16-4 scoreline in favour of the hosts at Grouville delighted Jersey manager Terry Smith.

‘It was a fantastic win, and a great team effort,’ said Smith.

‘We got the pairings right for the four-balls; they gave us a great start on Saturday afternoon by winning four of the five matches.

There were some close matches but I decided to keep the same pairings for the foursomes because they all played well.

‘Geoff Ramskill and his son Richard played that well I put them in as the lead pair for Sunday morning’s foursomes and they again played well to win.

‘I can’t speak highly enough of the team, it really was a great effort from them all.

‘We required three-and-a-half points in the singles and to win nine of the ten matches was outstanding.

‘Geoff Ramskill winning three points out of three on his debut was superb while Gavin O’Neill and Matthew Parkman also contributed with maximum points.’ Jersey Golf Union secretary Rob Leader said: ‘It was an emphatic victory and thoroughly deserved.

The players were extremely disappointed to lose heavily last year and they wanted to put on a good show this time.

‘The team spirit has been excellent and they all played very well.

The Ramskills were in super form on Saturday they scored six birdies and were on a four-under-par score when they won their match.

‘To win the singles 9-1 was beyond our wildest expectation.

‘The players of both Islands were delighted with the playing conditions and we thank the Royal for the use of the course over the weekend.’ Jersey’s success completed a hat-trick of inter-island wins following on from the Seniors last week and the under-18s last month.

Matthew Parkman won a magnum of Champagne for being chosen as man-of-the-match by the sponsors.
