In the European Catholic Schools swimming competition being held in Malta, she started the event with two silvers and a bronze.

The 14-year-old Beaulieu student took three seconds off her personal best in the 200m breast stroke, taking silver with a time of 2 min 45.9 sec, missing out on gold by less than a second.

She managed to add another silver to her tally by finishing second in the freestyle relay team.

And finally she took bronze in the 400m individual medley, with a time of 5 min 17.2 sec.

The teenager is again racing today and Friday.

Meanwhile, members of the AIB Tigers competed in the ASA Long Course Championships in Manchester last weekend.

None of the local competitors made the finals, but their performances were nevertheless impressive.

Simon Le Couilliard swam the 100m fly in 57.9 sec, the 200m fly in 2 min 7 sec and the 200 backstroke in 2 min 11 sec, which although put him in the top ten, was one to two per cent outside his best times.

Daniel Halksworth was two per cent from his best time and went within two seconds of the final with 4 min 40 sec in the 400m individual medley.

In the 100m freestyle JJ Gallichan clocked 64 sec, James Payne got 65.1 sec while Amira Ahmed got 1 min 07 sec.
