States of Jersey takes short flight to name change

To celebrate VLM’s inaugural flight from London City to the Island, the Belgian airline named their new aircraft the States of Jersey.

But on landing at the airport shortly after 10 am for the naming of the aircraft, officials from the company were told they had to change its name.

It is understood both Deputy Lyndon Farnham, chairman of the Tourism Board, and the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, were unhappy at linking the States of Jersey to a commercial venture.

Although the name ‘States of Jersey’ has already been painted on the side of the aircraft, it was officially named the Island of Jersey at a ceremony on the Airport’s tarmac this morning.
