Chairman of selectors Dave Gorman, who has replaced Chris Searson after two years in office, has chosen a young man with a lot of potential who is a strong candidate for the captain’s r?le in the inter-insular in August.
Gorman, Jersey skipper last year, said: ‘It’s time to look at the youngsters and Peter is a serious contender for the captaincy against Guernsey.
The team to face the MCC on Monday is a good young side, with some experienced players in it too.
Many current Island players have been in the team for a good number of years and bringing in the youngsters now signals that Jersey is ready to play a few more of them in the inter-insular.’ Gorman added that a number of the Island regulars were unavailable because of holiday and work commitments, but that in reality it was an excellent opportunity to see how the youngsters perform in a big game against the Marylebone Cricket Club.
Monday’s match is at Grainville, starting at 11.30 am and the JCA Select XI is: Peter Gough, Jonny Gough, Danny Bertram, Richard Huckle, Bradley Vowden, Simon Short, Karl Moyse, Nigel Crocker, Rob Tewkesbury, Danny Blasco and Meeku Patidar.
The MCC play three matches this weekend, the first tomorrow against Victoria 1st XI at the College Field at 11 am.
For that game the College team is: Tom Minty (captain), Oliver Hughes, Tom McAviney, Simon Warren, Sam Dewhurst, Hamish Maclachlan, Tom Wherry, Jonathan Lee, Daniel Lundy, William Golder, Lee Meloy, Brett Pitman and Matthew Brookland.
MCC’s tour continues on Sunday at Grainville against the JICC, starting at 11.30 am.
The JICC that day is: Nigel Crocker (captain), Richard Gomersall, Ward Jenner, Ian Crocker, Dave Clark, Jon Prince, Andy Brown, Shaun Billson, Martin Higgins, Chris Searson and Keith Dennis.

He was supported by Steven Blackburn (0 for 7) and Peter Millar (0 for 12).
The U15s struggled in their innings at the FB and were bowled out for 99 against Bryanston.
Victoria College U15s batted first against Bryanston on Tuesday on FB 3 and scored 133 for 8.

Jersey U13s batted first and scored 155 at the same venue, with Daniel McAviney (26), Oliver Tett (32) and Chris Young (26) top-scoring.
Reigate were put under some pressure by accurate Jersey bowling and fielding and Tett (2 for 25) and Steven Blackburn (3 for 23) were the pick of the bowlers before Reigate’s Rivers, who hit the ball hard to score 72, got his team home by two wickets.
On Wednesday Victoria College U13s won the toss and elected to bat but may have regretted the decision after losing five wickets for seven runs.
But their innings was rescued by some fine batting from two of the younger players- Tim de la Haye (45 not out) and Steven Blackburn (46).
Reigate lost four wickets in their reply.
Steven Blackburn (1 for 21) and Peter Millar (2 for 23) bowled tidily at the beginning of the innings and Tim de la Haye, with some promising off spin, took 1 for 17.
