In a strong position after seven laps, along with two other riders who had broken away from the main group of seniors, he suffered a puncture in his rear wheel.

Dashing back to the line he managed to change his wheel, but was already minutes behind the leaders, and the main group who had overtaken him.Rising to the challenge he set off after both, having already completed over 50 miles, significantly increasing his pace.

He caught and overtook the main group in glorious style , finishing a minute ahead of them and only two minutes behind winner Sam Firby who pipped Vincent Peron in the final sprint.Vélo’s Andy Munns won an exciting, photo-finish in the veterans race, a group of eight riders having fought it out all the way round the seven laps of the circuit.

The leading five riders were eventually sorted out with clubmate Paul Lipscombe second and CCC’s Gary de Gruchy third.Helen Goulding (CCC) put in a strong performance to win the ladies race and Thomas Bailey was first junior.Leading results – Seniors: 1, Sam Firby (CCC) 2.28.33, 2, Vincent Peron (CCC) 2.28.34; 3, Richard Tanguy (VSJ) 2.30.30.
