And a good number of those watching were there to see team newcomer and British number 4 Alex Bogdanovic in action.His first match was against Ghanaian Davis Cup player Gunther Darkey, recently ranked 500 in the world.
The match demonstrated tennis of the highest standard and showed why Bogdanovic is such a valuable asset for the Jersey team.
He defeated Darkey 6-1, 7-5.
On court 2 Naim Lalji, also a very talented and up and coming player, defeated Conrad Lim 6-1, 6-0, and at No 3, Alex Miotto beat another Ghanaian tennis player, Alex Afaku 6-2, 6-3.
On court 4, James Smith defeated Sam Neatly 6-3, 7-5.
With all the singles played and won, Caesarean already had the victory, and bagged the crucial four points to clinch the tie.
Nevertheless, they went on to play the doubles matches as they also counted towards the overall score of the tie.
On court 1 skipper Pablo Giacopelli partnered Naim Lalji to defeat Darkey and Lim 7-5, 6-1, in a very exciting and interesting match to watch.
On court two Smith and Miotto defeated Afaku and Neatly 6-2 and 6-3.The atmosphere was absolutely electric throughout the day and skipper Pablo Giacopelli said: ‘It was a great day for the club and the team.
‘The balcony and the stands, which were kindly loaned by Education, Sport and Culture, were full throughout the day.
This is a great start to our season, but there is still a great deal of work to be done and difficult obstacles are still to be overcome if we are going to better last year’s result.’The Caesarean side meet Park Langley in Kent on 18 April.
