It will be written by Cambridge historian Paul Sanders, author of ‘The Ultimate Sacrifice’, a story of Island-ers who died in Nazi camps and jails.The project has the support of the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, the Liberation 60 Committee, the Société Jersiaise and the Royal British Legion.The director of the Jersey Heritage Trust, Jonathan Carter, said that the timing was crucial.
‘History never stops unfolding as more evidence comes to light, and perspectives change with the passing of time,’ he said.
‘It is 30 years since the last official history of the Occupation years, and masses of new material has emerged.
The 60th anniversary of the Liberation is a good time to review the new material and reflect on how our understanding has developed.
