A SONGWRITER from Iceland has written a song paying tribute to the people of Jersey.
Titled “Jersey Bean”, the four-minute track is currently available on Spotify and is the work of Gudny Maria Arnthorsdottir, or Maria as she is known to her friends in the Island.
Discussing the origins of the song, Maria says: “I have often been in Jersey, whether working here or as a holidaymaker. I came first to the Island as a teenager, working at a hotel in St Aubin, and I nearly lost my live there that summer – the manager and his wife saved me. What a summer!
“I came back later with my four young children to thank these lovely people.”
At present, Maria – who is pictured here enjoying a Jersey ice cream – is back in the Island shooting a music video to accompany Jersey Bean, which begins with the lyric: “Jersey, Jersey, Jersey Bean/Best place I have ever been”.
“I wrote the song about you all,” she says. “It is about the people in Jersey who make this Island such a great place. People have always been so nice to me. I would be very happy if you tell the people in Jersey about my song – it is, after all, for them.”
