A PUPIL at Victoria College Prep recently raised over £500 in aid of Jersey Child Care Trust.
Year 5 student Henry Hunt organised and hosted a cake sale on Friday 27 June, with visitors to Henry’s stall able to choose from 60 cookies, all donated by local bakery Dough, as well as a variety of baked goods donated by the school community.
Kind-hearted Henry is one of four young Ambassadors for JCCT with the local charity having supported his younger sister, Holly, who has Angelman Syndrome, and who was able to attend her mainstream nursery with the help of a specialist support worker thanks to the St Helier-based charity.
In addition to hosting the fundraising cake sale, Henry also delivered a “confident and heartfelt” presentation during a whole-school assembly, sharing his family’s story and the importance of JCCT’s work. He was joined for this by Fiona Vacher, who is the executive director of JCCT, and who said: “Henry is one of four JCCT Ambassadors who raises money and awareness of our charity as well as support our events.
“In his role, he has presented gifts to our Patrons, His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, Sir Jerry and Lady Karen Kyd, and spoken publicly to an audience of over 300 guests. He has also dressed up as an elf to entertain the children we support at our annual Christmas event.
“He is an inspiration and told me he is an Ambassador to help more children have their best start in life, just like his sister Holly.”
Angelman syndrome is a rare neurogenetic condition that affects approximately 1 in 15,000 individuals. Holly has developmental delays, is non-speaking and struggles with a lot of basic tasks that many take for granted, including eating and drinking. She also has complex epilepsy and struggles with sleep.”
Caroline Finch is a SENCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) and senior leadership team member at Victoria College Prep, and said: “The school are incredibly proud of Henry’s creativity, his generosity and his passion for helping others. We are certain that he will continue to support this fantastic local charity. Well done, Henry.”
