FEBRUARY RESULTS
Welcome to the monthly update of the Ashburton Jersey School’s Investment Challenge.
It wasn’t so long ago that we were packing up the Christmas tree, but here we are in early March and a third of the way through the competition. Whilst January was positive for equities in general, February has seen equity markets decline on concerns over inflation, higher interest rates and mixed corporate earnings that have all weighed on investor sentiment.

We are pleased to report that our investment challenge competitors have a good start, on average, performing better than global equity markets. Thanks to consistently good performance across their teams, Highlands College is now leading the way as the best performing school, with an average return of 13.09%. At a team level, BSG Investments from Victoria College is now in the top spot with an impressive 23,54% return this year and 5% for the month. The best performing team for February is 8Eyes from Beaulieu Convent School, returning 9.54% with a strong performance in Rolls Royce shares its biggest contributor.
Overall, financial markets are likely to remain volatile as the economic landscape remains uncertain and central banks attempt to raise interest rates, bringing inflation down to their target rate. The competition is still at an early stage and there will be many more ups and downs in the months attached.
