A HAT-TRICK of headers and a Harry Curtis dismissal did not stop the Jersey Bulls from continuing their unbeaten run as they drew 3-3 away to Egham Town last night.
A frantic start to the Bulls’ fifth away game this month saw them fall 2-0 down inside the opening 10 minutes to a Sebastian Karczewski brace.
A depleted Jersey Bulls side, with a number of players attending the funeral of local footballing legend Jordan ‘Leggy’ Le Guyader, found themselves with an early mountain to climb.
However, Lorne Bickley nudged home at the back post from a James Sunley square ball after just 14 minutes, before the frenetic opening continued.
A third header from close range restored Egham’s two-goal advantage and provided debutant goalkeeper Sam Devy and his side with an uphill battle on away soil.
The Bulls have shown throughout the early stages of the 2026/27 campaign that they are capable of digging in and grinding out results, and that resilience was once again on show at the Runnymede Stadium.
Bickley struck again just before half-time with a sweet strike that caught Sam Swyer off guard as the six-goal thriller headed into the break.
Sammy Henia-Kamau then dragged the Bulls level in the second half, with a deflected free-kick finding the bottom-left corner of the Egham goal to mark the winger’s sixth goal of the season.
“I’m definitely happy to pick up another goal and to contribute to the team in helping equalise the game,” Henia-Kamau said.
“I’m happy with my start to the season and will be doing my best to continue.”
Yet another recurring theme of this season for Elliot Powell and his side has been their inability to keep a level playing field for 90 minutes.
Harry Curtis received the Bulls’ fifth red card of the season, just two minutes after the equaliser, when he was dismissed for violent conduct following an altercation with Egham’s Connor Cullen.
Another spanner in the works left the Bulls with another herculean task on their hands.
But Henia-Kamau believes the character within the squad continues to pull them through difficult situations.
“It’s obviously not ideal going down to 10 men again, we do need to limit that, but we have so many characters and leaders that we can rely on when it gets tough,” he said.
“The togetherness of the team helps us get through anything pushed on us.”
Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Bulls held firm, assisted by a wonderful late save from Devy helping them grind out another point against the odds.
The result extends Jersey’s unbeaten run and caps another demanding period of travel for Powell’s side.
“It has been a very busy period, but we have done well to keep picking up points on the road in tough conditions and we’ve stuck together when it gets hard,” Henia-Kamau said.
Attention now turns back to Springfield Stadium, where the Bulls welcome Ascot United on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off.
And Henia-Kamau is relishing the prospect of returning to home soil.
“I’m really excited to be back at home playing in front of hopefully a busy Springfield, where we can show our quality even more on that surface.”
