NEW Planning Minister Sir Mark Boleat has given permission to create an area of parking at Palm Grove Farmhouse in La Pouquelaye – following the recommendation of an independent planning inspector.
An original application for land south of the farmhouse, which is not far from d’Auvergne School and overlooks Vallée des Vaux, was refused by the former Planning Committee in January this year.
Applicant Helen Romeril appealed the decision, and the case was reviewed by planning inspector Sue Bell, who recommended that planning permission be granted subject to five conditions.
Mrs Bell concluded that the main issue in the appeal was the design and siting of the proposed development, and the effect of the proposals on the character of the next-door valley.
She said that the plans would respect the landscape and townscape character of the area and would protect the Island’s identity.
Senator Boleat agreed with the inspector’s assessment and recommendation and granted planning permission, subject to planning conditions and a planning obligation agreement.
The conditions include providing a “detailed scheme of hard and soft landscaping” before work can start.
