Mother describes moments after fatal town park collision

Stacey Pringle desperately put her son Clinton (3) into the recovery position after he was struck by a VW Transporter being driven by 39-year-old Rebekah Le Gal.

The prosecution claim she had sent a ‘trivial’ text message to her son seconds before the collision in Tunnell Street outside the Millennium Town Park.

It is also the Crown’s case that Mrs Le Gal was driving dangerously because she was using Tunnell Street as a through road when it is for access to premises only.

Mrs Le Gal denies causing death by dangerous driving.

‘My reply was “look at what you have done”. I had Clinton in the recovery position.’

Solicitor General Mark Temple, prosecuting, asked how the driver responded.

Mrs Pringle replied: ‘She said “did he run out in front of me”? And then my sister’s response was “no he was clearly in the middle of the road. You mowed him down”.’

Earlier in the day, the court heard that seconds before Clinton was hit his mother and his aunt ‘screamed’ and waved their arms to try to alert the driver to the fact he was in the road.

Clinton, who was on holiday in the Island, died three days later in Southampton Hospital from ‘catastrophic, non-survivable injuries’.

The trial continues.
