Island hits back at tax haven claims

In a report released yesterday the charity placed Jersey 12th on a list of 15 jurisdictions that also included Bermuda (1st), the Cayman Islands (2nd) and the British Virgin Islands (15th).

It said that the jurisdictions ‘facilitate the most extreme forms of corporate tax avoidance, driving the race to the bottom in corporate taxation’.

At the same time it has also been claimed that the world’s most expensive footballer, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, manages his image rights through a company based on the Esplanade.

Geoff Cook, chief executive of Jersey Finance, said that he was unable to comment on individual cases but reinforced Jersey’s commitment to the highest standards of financial regulation.
