Mixed day for Island teams

Jersey RFC crashed to a huge defeat at home in front of a 2,664-strong crowd, going down 39-8 to Moseley despite much of the match being tight. Jersey, who finished with 13 men, are still nine points in front of Championship survival rivals Ealing, who play their game in hand against Bristol tomorrow (Sunday).

In Guernsey, Jersey’s U18 footballers enjoyed a superb 5-1 victory over their Sarnian counterparts at the Corbett Field – and it could have been even more emphatic.

In the main hockey inter-insular at Les Quennevais, Jersey’s men were thumped 7-1 by Guernsey. There was far better news in the netball, with Team Jets warming-up for their decisive South West Regional One title match with Aquarians tomorrow, by beating Team Bath.

But in London there was disappointment for an understrength Jersey Athletic squad who lost out to Richmond Vikings, 64-29, in their vital Zoo Sports Shield top-of-the-table clash.
