The car ferry HD1 will begin operating again to St Malo at 7.15 am tomorrow in time for the bank holiday weekend. It was confined to port in Guernsey last Saturday following more alleged difficulties berthing in Jersey at the weekend. But following a review of revised operating procedures by a variety of agencies, the company was informed that it was free to take to the water again. Managing director Chris Howe-Davies said: ‘The level of public support has been hugely encouraging. We are determined to press ahead and keep fares low to the many travellers who continue to want to use our service.’ The company hoped that it had found a way of permanently resolving the problems the ship had encountered as a result of operating on three engines in difficult weather conditions. He said that the issues this week mainly involved documentation related to running on three engines for a sustained period of time.
