Jersey horses in UK worth a flutter

If anyone had a little flutter on trainer Joan Le Brocq’s horses last weekend they will have been smiling because a one pound each way stake on each would have gained them a profit of £28.25.

On Saturday, four out of five of Le Brocq’s runners placed, Flashing Floozy and Flaxby both third at 33/1, Ask the Clerk second at 33/1 and Carr Hall, the Jersey Derby winner, third at 25/1.

Two weeks earlier Ask the Clerk finished second by a head at the same Wolverhampton course where Flashing Floozie again took third.

Le Brocq said: ‘A lot of people think Jersey racing is poor but this is proof that it is not – we were up against good opposition.

‘It’s very encouraging and I was welcomed back at the weekend after the successes two weeks earlier.

‘A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed on the Racing Channel by Robert Cooper.

I told him all about Jersey racing and how encouraged I was that our racing must be of a decent standard as our horses had competed well that night.

‘Ask the Clerk has a lot of ability and he was in need of a change of course to run and doing so well he has now been sold.

‘A bloodstock agent has also come in to buy three of my other horses but Robinzal is the only one on the market at the moment.

‘My phones have not stopped ringing because everything went well, but it’s now time to give the horses a bit of holiday from racing.

‘I’m encouraged with the past few weeks and I will be looking to race in England regularly next year.’
