Boyle came on at half-time, with the Scots leading 3-0, and he went on to net Scottish’s fifth goal – a super strike into a top corner from 18 yards – helping his team to a 7-0 victory against Jersey Wanderers in the first round of the Wheway Cup.

Scottish manager Bob Kearsey said: ‘Wanderers have a young side and it was an ideal game to have a look at Jack.

He turned in a tidy performance and scored a good goal.

‘Nothing seems to worry him, he is confident on the ball and he uses it well.

In fact, he appears to take everything in his stride.

‘Without being disrespectful to Wanderers it was an easy game for us.

We scored early and it was an uphill battle for them.

‘We scored some good goals while they never really hurt us.’ Island captain Chris Andrews hit a hat-trick, Ross Crick a brace with Bradley Cooke completing the rout.

Wanderers manager Daryn Noble said: ‘Scottish are the Channel Islands champions and we knew it was going to be hard for us.

It’s the second time they’ve beaten us 7-0 this season and I thought we were better last night than last time and we finished with three under-16s last night.

‘Max Jouan was busy in goal and he was outstanding.

He played well and for an under-16 he looks the part.

Just after the break we had a few chances to get back into the game but we squandered two while the crossbar denied Mark Reid.

‘We were being over-run in midfield and changed to 3-5-2 after the break and although we conceded more goals I felt we coped better.

‘We will learn from last night, talk about it at training tomorrow night and then look forward to a big league game away to Rozel Rovers on Saturday.’ Scottish play St Peter in round two at Springfield on Tuesday 4 October.
