Move to demolish St Helier landmarks

Renoufs Ltd have applied to knock down 15 and 17 King through to 1 and 2 Vine Street, doing away with the existing jewellers’ shops Linscotts and Rowleys and office equipment suppliers Collins. The application was news to Linscotts’ manager, Jim Granger.

He was unaware of the proposals but said he did not want to comment until he had seen the plans.

Collins also declined to comment.

Patrick Collins of Rowleys said that he had heard rumours but was waiting to hear from his landlord.Renoufs have a hurdle to overcome, however, as the four buildings are listed as Buildings of Local Interest, which presumes against demolition unless the applicant can present a persuasive case against preservation.Architects Axis Mason Ltd have come up with plans for a four-storey building with a single retail unit at ground- and first-floor level, storage and administration offices on the third floor and three flats above.
