Bids invited for historic cottage

No 2 Le Mourier Cottage is a semi-detached property in Le Mourier Valley, in St John, parts of which date back to the 16th and 17th centuries and which retains many original features, including traditional Jersey granite fireplaces, a bread oven and wooden beams.

However, it is a bit of a project as the conversion work to restore the once-ruined structure is incomplete. While the current owner has reinstated the structure of the cottage, making good exterior walls and putting on a roof to make it wind and water tight, the cottage remains a shell requiring fitting out.

The property is being sold by private tender by Maillards Estates. Interested buyers have until noon on Friday to make a bid, sealed in an envelope and delivered to the agents in Don Street.

The guide price is not advertised but will be given to those who want to make a serious offer.

Maillards’ marketing brochure says that once the restoration work is complete, the cottage will comprise two bedroom suites, an open-plan kitchen and living areas, a lounge, utility and cloakroom and parking for four cars.
