Pride of Jersey votes pour in

More than 14,300 votes have been recorded since the polls opened.

The awards are due to be presented at a special ceremony at Government House on Saturday 22 September.

Islanders are being reminded that they can still vote for their inspirational community heroes who have been nominated across 12 categories for the next five days at prideofjersey.com.

JEP managing director Paul Carter said: ‘We are now in the fourth consecutive year of Pride of Jersey and I was delighted to see that within 24 hours of opening the voting we had received 14,336 votes from our readers.

‘It’s fantastic to see people engage with these awards. And as always, the individual stories behind each nomination demonstrates the strength of community, compassion and consideration for others that are hallmarks of the true Jersey way.

‘I encourage anyone who hasn’t already visited the website or read the articles in the JEP to take just a few minutes to review these unsung heroes and place a vote on their behalf.’

The competition’s categories include neighbour of the year, young achiever, grandparent, child, ambassador, environmentalist, teacher, volunteer/fundraiser and inspirational leader of the year. The three nominees who receive the most votes in each category will be placed on a shortlist and a panel of judges will choose a winner. Some of last year’s winners will join the judging panels.

At the ceremony, each category winner will receive a prize worth £1,000 from the category’s sponsor.

Details of all the categories – and of the Islanders nominated in each section – can be found at prideofjersey.com.
