The alleged incident happened last night (14 April) on Cannon Street at about 8.30pm near the Parade Pub.
Officers say the woman was wearing a light-coloured checked jacket and had been walking along Devonshire Place and Lemprière Street before the attempted robbery took place.
The woman was not injured and the three men did not manage to take her bag.
